Expo-Metro Rom ´26

An Urban Art Experience in the Heart of the City

ExpoMetro Rome ’26 transformed the city into a global platform for contemporary artistic expression. Artists from around the world presented works across large-scale digital installations, creating a temporary museum embedded in the urban fabric of Rome.

Among these works, the diptych Begin Again drew particular attention — not through provocation, but through clarity.

Displayed in high-visibility metro locations, the artworks reach thousands of daily commuters and visitors, turning public transit into a living art space. Expo-Metro ’25 not only promotes artistic diversity but also encourages new forms of cultural dialogue in the heart of the city.

The two paintings depict a biological transformation: from caterpillar to butterfly. On the left panel, the caterpillar appears grounded and segmented, suspended in a state of becoming. On the right, the butterfly emerges — lighter, structured, and oriented toward movement. Together, the panels form a single narrative: transformation as a process, not an event.

Begin Again was originally selected for exhibition in Hong Kong. Shortly before its public presentation, the exhibition was halted due to governmental censorship. The work never reached its intended audience.

Its later inclusion in ExpoMetro Rome ’26 gave the diptych a new contextual layer. What began as a meditation on renewal became a statement about artistic continuity under restriction. The work does not depict resistance explicitly; instead, it embodies it through persistence.

The restrained palette of greens and blues suggests growth and regeneration, while subtle gold accents mark moments of transition — points where change becomes visible, but remains unfinished.

Displayed in Rome, Begin Again stood as a reminder that creative transformation does not require permission. It happens quietly, inevitably, and again and again.
